On the 19th of February, 2003, an Iranian Military IL-76 was carrying 275 passengers and crew from Zahedan Airport, Sistan to Kerman Airport in Kerman, Iran. The passengers were members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IL-76 crashed 35 kilometers southeast of Kerman in mountainous terrain. All 275 occupants of the IL-76 perished in the crash.

The cause of the crash is not certain but the weather conditions were deteriorating in that region. There were high winds reported in the area before locals heard a loud explosion. The investigators believe the IL-76 performed a controlled flight into terrain.

This crash remains the deadliest crash for the IL- 76 type. It is the second deadliest crash in Iran and It also remains as one of the deadliest crashes of all time.

Due to the high number of deaths, some speculate that it might have been a mid-air collision as the IL-76 is not known to carry more than 200 occupants. The exact cause and course of events, remain shrouded in mystery due to the classified nature of this flight.
